With over 20 years of experience in the helping profession, Gerard Vardy has been involved in the field of addictions work since 1997. During a year-long clinical residency at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Virginia in 1999, he was introduced to the full spectrum of care that could be offered by an Addiction Recovery Centre program. As a result of the clinical residency experience, he began to specialize in the field of addictions, trauma and spirituality. He now focuses on support and trauma healing for partners of those with sex addictions. He is the Partner Program Coordinator for The Whitestone Clinic in Ottawa, Ontario.
Gerard held clinical positions within Canadian Forces Health Services – Operation Trauma Stress and Support Centre (OTSSC) where treatment was offered to our soldiers and their families struggling with Operational Stress Injuries, Addictions, and Issues of Spirituality and Trauma.
In 2005 he became a Canadian Certified Counselor (CCC) with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Most recently he completed an internship with Thorpe Recovery Centre in Lloydminster, specializing in Group Counseling for Addictions and Spirituality and Trauma. Gerard is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
Gerard is currently in the process of training with the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), to become a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). Nearing the completion of his certification, he is recognized as one of only three CSAT trained therapists in the Ottawa Region.
Gerard Vardy is supervised by Dr. Brenda Saxe (www.linkedin.com). He is the owner of Changes First (changesfirst@rogers.com ) and is an independent contractor with The Whitestone Clinic. He is happy to offer his contracted services and expertise to The Whitestone Clinic in Ottawa, as it brings much needed counselling and psychotherapy treatment to the National Capital Region and surrounding area.
