Michael Browning, RP
M.Div, MA, CSAT
After experiencing, both personally and professionally, the struggles of addiction and its effects on loved ones, Michael was inspired to provide a specialized care for people who are struggling with their own, or a loved one’s, sexual addiction.
After seven years of providing pastoral counselling and related services Michael began more specialized studies to provide psychotherapy services. He worked for three years as an addiction counsellor at an Ottawa not-for-profit addiction and family outpatient program (www.rideauwood.org).
Michael opened his own counselling and psychotherapy private practice in June 2011. MIchael invited other therapists to join him in offering a general practice with a specialty in sex addiction. He rebranded his practice and the new enterprise was named The Whitestone Clinic. It comprised the combined skills sets of several therapists into a broad range of therapies, but with a common focus on addictions. Until the opening of The Whitestone Clinic, there had been no such directed treatment for sex addiction in the National Capital Region.
Michael Browning is a Registered Psychotherapist, (RP), with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). He has two Graduate degrees, a Master’s in Divinity (Pastoral Theology) and a Master’s in Arts (Counselling and Spirituality). He has degrees from Carleton University, from the Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto, and from the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University.
Michael has received specialized training in individual, couple and group therapy. One of only two certified therapists in Ottawa, he is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), which he earned with the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP).
Michael is supervised by Dr. Martin Rovers, Registered Psychologist (www.marriagetherapistsottawa.ca). Receipts issued are recognized by most Insurance providers. Michael looks forward to helping you and can be reached by phone or email.
