Rachelle McKinnon (Intern)
Counselling Intern – MDiv in Clinical Counselling (Candidate)
Rachelle is thrilled to be interning under the supervision of Gerard Vardy, RP, at The Whitestone Clinic as part of her completion of an MDiv in Clinical Counselling through Tyndale Seminary in Toronto.
Rachelle has always had a passion for hearing the authentic and unmasked stories of people from all walks of life. No story is insignificant, too small, or too messy to hear. She provides counselling for a variety of life issues including anxiety, balance, life transition, spirituality, meaning and other general issues, and has a special interest in working with those who have experienced trauma. Having seen firsthand and in the testimonies of others the devastation and confusion that occurs while walking through sexual and betrayal trauma, she has a heart for coming alongside individuals in traumatic circumstances who are seeking a safe place to search for meaning, control and healing. Rachelle’s approach to therapy is to provide a warm and inviting space for each client to share their story, bringing her genuine self to each encounter and providing empathy, support and resources so that clients feel heard and safe to be themselves and work together towards their goals.
Rachelle is educated in a variety of counselling approaches and interventions, the integration of counselling and spirituality, and culturally competent therapy. Moreover, she has had training in both Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Focusing, and her Master’s research focused on posttraumatic growth and God Image after sexual assault. While at Tyndale Rachelle was one of a select few TAs observing other students’ counselling skills, providing feedback and direction where needed, and she is excited to now put her own training and skills to use at The Whitestone Clinic.
